The Joint Advisory Team met on February 17 with Fr. Tuan, Leigh Stringfellow and Deacon Sam Basta, Seattle Archdiocese Strategic Planning. The following items were discussed.
During discussion of “where we are today,” it became apparent that there are differences of opinions among the Joint Advisory Team members. We decided to meet after the Consultative Leadership training on March 5 to continue creating the information for PowerPoint presentation for the webinar.
Please read today’s Gospel Luke 4:1-13
The Sunday Gospel describes the devil tempting Jesus in the desert after his 40 days of prayer and fasting. The reading from St. Matthew’s Gospel is from Ash Wednesday the beginning of our 40 days of Lent. In Matthew’s Gospel we find Jesus talking about the traditional Lenten practices of Prayer, Fasting (Sacrifices), and Almsgiving (Generosity).
Dialogue: Prayer leads us to true worship of God (3rd temptation). Discuss lighting a candle (religious glass candle container found in many stores) and placing it on the family table at the main meal. Together pray the Our Father, and let each one ask God’s special blessing for some need. Fasting fast from bread, crackers, cookies for one meal a week(1st temptation). Discuss when and how you will do this. Discuss placing the saving in the Rice Bowl. Almsgiving (2nd temptation) as a family think of how you might you might help someone: (invite someone to dinner, bring a meal, dessert, flowers to a neighbor, bring some food to the St. Vincent de Paul food box in the church entrance, etc.)
Beginning Thursday, March 3, 9:30AM you are invited to gather in church for Scripture readings, prayers and sharing. There is no need to study, just come hear and open your heart to the word. Bring your own prayer of need to share.

Thank you all for your continued support to St. John of the Woods
The USCCB has asked Archbishop Etienne to take up an emergency Ash Wednesday collection for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe in response to the recent invasion of Ukraine
Here is an excerpt from Bishop Monforton’s letter:
The USCCB is uniquely positioned to provide aid to the region, having built strong relationships with our brother bishops there these last 30 years, and having given so much assistance in the development of the Church’s capacity to respond to pastoral and social needs. A robust response at this moment will allow the Church in the U.S. to continue to be a strong partner to give critical and timely humanitarian aid now for Ukraine.
Thank you for your generosity
